Design and Exteriors
Alto is the smallest car that Maruti Suzuki sells in India. The entry level hatch despite the diminutive exterior looks rather cute and fits perfectly well in the city environment. The front fascia comprises of flower-petal inspired headlamps, which are complemented by a two-tone bumper that uses a honey-comb pattern just above the air dam, and a short and narrow grille at the center.

The rear too carries a taillight cluster inspired from petals and compliments the overall design. The car measures 3445 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2360 mm. It stands at 1475 mm in height, while front track and rear track measure 1295 mm and 1290 mm respectively. The car is available with six colour options, Uptown Red, Silky Silver, Granite Grey, Solid White, Mojito Green and Cerulean Blue.
Engine and Transmission
There's only one engine and one transmission on offer. Engine is a three-cylinder, 796 cc unit and the transmission is 5 speed manual. The engine is transversely mounted and powers the front wheels.

Engine produces 47.3 bhp at 6000 rpm while peak torque is 69 Nm at 3500 rpm. The CNG option is available with LXi variant. When run on CNG, the engine produces marginally low power and torque figures - 40.36 bhp and 60 Nm. The fuel tank capacity for petrol is 35 litres while the CNG tank can carry 60 litres of CNG.

The manufacturer claims an economy figure of 22.05 km/l for petrol powered car, however for CNG, the maximum fuel economy is claimed to be 31.59 km/kg.
Interiors and Features
The car offers a dual-tone dashboard, Smartplay Studio - 17.78 cm touch screen infotainment system along with internally adjustable ORVMs, air conditioner with heater, power steering, central door locking, key-less entry, front power windows, rear parcel tray, remote tailgate opener and other such features. Though some of the features are only present in the top variant.

Safety and security features like ABS, EBD, headlight levelling, engine immobiliser, speed-alert system, reverse parking sensors and driver airbag are available as standard. A thing to be kept in mind is that the car offers seating capacity of five people with petrol variant while CNG offers to seat four (due to additional weight). Wheels and Brakes
Alto comes fitted with 12" wheels with all variants, while rubber section is 145 mm wide. At the front, you get ventilated disc brakes and at the rear drum brakes are equipped to stop the car.
